Frustrated!

I am a tad frustrated. I spend my money and time reading the work of authors. When I really enjoy a book and I reach out to the author or see that others have and we get no response, it really angers me. Where would their career be without faithful readers? Why do they feel it is okay to ignore inquiries as to if they are writing more or when? I understand that they may not have an actual date for release but is is too much to ask for common courtesy? They could (and in my opinion) should at least acknowledge that they received the message.

I am tracking multiple authors on Amazon and have even made comments to some regarding their books. Whether I started the conversation or not I feel that they should respond to their fans!

Grrrr! People please!

  1. I sent a question to best selling author Anne Perry via her website and was SHOCKED to get a response with about an hour. I honestly expected to wait weeks or never get a reply. I also heard back from Keri Arthur quickly a few years ago.

    1. That is awesome and I do sooo love Keri Arthur. :-)

I only wish all authors appreciated theirs fans as much.

  2. Ok... but do you feel the same way about actors? Do you get upset if you write to them and no response? It's kinda the same deal. They might be getting a lot of fan mail and either don't have the resources or time to respond in what you consider a timely fashion. Plus, while you feel "close" to the author after reading their work, they don't know you from any other stranger. I think that you might need to put this into a different perspective and rethink being so harsh toward these authors that you "love". What would you rather have? Them responding or them writing more books?!

    1. I see your point. I do not watch much television or movies and I certainly never thought to write an actor or actress.

I am not referring to a letter or even email. I am referring to a comment on Goodreads, their Amazon page, etc... Just asking when the next book will be out. As I said many times it is not even my comment, I am just as curious as the other fans who ask the questions. I am not expecting a long drawn out answer just something to let us know that we are being heard. I am referring to months with no response not just a few days.

I understand that they are busy and have lives outside of the book world. They should still make an effort to answer.

Many of the authors even have PAs that answer questions for them.

    2. Hello. As an author that is indie published, it is extremely difficult to keep up with everything. Personally I don't read my reviews on Amazon, so if there were comments, I wouldn't know unless Amazon emailed me. I look at reviews as being for possible readers that want opinions. I love to receive feedback, but it can be crushing to the muse when you get a negative one. I do go on goodreads and check messages when I'm notified, but again, I try to stay away from the reviews. Facebook is the one place that I actively interact with readers -- I have a page and group. For indie authors we tend to handle everything on our own because we can't afford a PA. I have a dear friend that recently began helping me out, but I don't want to take advantage of her since I can't afford to pay her. I'm hoping one day that will change, but for now... we get by. Thanks for listening/reading my 2 cents.

  3. I have an author who I have read every book and it is over 30 books all of which I purchased. I always make sure the author is tagged in my tweets, blog posts, etc. She always send me her newsletter and lets me know to preorder her new book..... etc. But all those tweets and reviews she gives no recognition to. It is not that I do this for that but...it's actually to help her sell more books. If and when she notices one she always says the same thing. "Thanks sweetie.:

I have other authors who see I reviewed them and they ALWAYS leave a small post thanking me. I have decided I will be promoting authors who love their readers. This author as much as I love her I no longer promote. I read her books but I do not promote or review them.

    1. It is always way more enjoyable to work with the authors that care and I have quite a few that are special to me as well.

I actually think that they spoiled me and now I have a hard time adjusting to the real world. LOL!

I might just have to adopt your way of thinking concerning those who can't be bothered.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me.

  4. *Hugs* i'm so happy to hear from you ( even if it's such a justified rant)*hugs*

i do understand you really. Some authors are really attentive to readers and/ or bloggers and very polite, answering us as quickly as they can .
Sadly they are others that are the complete opposite, soem who were even rude to readers and on my side i decided not to read them anymore if i came accross one like that. i prefer to spend money and time on those that deserves it and you made us discover a lot LOT of authors that not only write well , passionate stories but also are wonderful persons, we could never thank you enough for that.

so i can only advice you to focus on those you feel worth it ^^

    1. The problem is that I don't realize what type of author they are until after I am already engrossed in a book or series.

I will rethink purchasing anymore books from them after the series I am reading is done.

It is good to hear from you as well. :-)

    2. you could always put that series started aside and focus on another one by something else while you wait to be sure i guess

gremlims must hate me because i send you several email ( both old and new address) but it seems no one reached you since i got no answer ( i hope that at least santa brought my card)

    3. I was in such a funk that I had not even used my computer except to order Christmas presents.

Unfortunately my email was at 100% by the time I finally checked it a week or so ago and it was not excepting new emails. :-(

I will eventually find them as I have been going through and deleting emails. I am only up to January 22nd and at 95%.

I did receive the card and I do appreciate the warm wishes.

  5. Aww I'm sorry. Perhaps the author was on vacation? I have to admit...I'm an author and sometimes when I reach out to other authors I admire...they don't respond either. But then there are some NYT bestsellers who are very generous with their fans and love interacting with them too. Perhaps your email went to spam? On the other side...I have friends that are very slow in responding to their emails too... Perhaps the author will still answer you?

    1. I agree with you. Many of us are slow responding to emails. However I didn't email them. I am referring to comments and inquiries made on their Amazon pages or Goodreads. I would assume they would pay better attention to those type of things.

  6. Hey, I'm an author and think everyone should be answered. If I get an email, I respond. But, I had to go check after reading this post, my Amazon page doesn't have any posts on it. I'm not sure if they email me when someone posts or not, but I never think to check that particular page. As for goodreads, I am pretty helpless when it comes to figuring that one out. If you send me a direct message, I know I receive those but I only get on the site a couple times a month. Although right now I have a book on giveaway there, so I am checking it more frequently. Anyway, my point is that you should email the authors you like and would like interaction with. I think you would have a better response. I always tell the students I talk to and meet to send me an email or sign up for my newsletter on my website. Something I just started in an effort to be more forthcoming with my fans! ;)

Anyway, if you email and get no response, forget them as it's no reflection on you. Enjoy your day!

  7. I get messages from Goodreads every time there's a comment or a like.

Hi, Brenda, I'm checking out some of those following my blog, The Great Raven, and all I can say is, if you comment on one of my posts or on my Goodreads profile, I will certainly reply. You haven't, so far. ;-)

  8. I love reader feedback and truly appreciate it! Authors are given advice to NOT interact on the reviews or comments about their books, but that does seem counter-intuitive to me. Even if a review is bad, if the reviewers says why they didn't like it, that's helpful information and they took the time to leave it.

I'm just getting started looking around at your blog and am hoping to find somewhere to submit a review request :)

  9. It might just be a case of a missing email. When we submit to advertising, our names get on so many lists. Every time I log in, I have to wade through 500 junk emails. I had a comment from my brother that I missed for something like 2 months. I would hope it's not purposeful. Readers are our whole reason for being.

  10. Irrespective of receiving daily oral or future injectable depot therapies, these require health care visits for medication and monitoring of safety and response. If patients are treated early enough, before a lot of immune system damage has occurred, life expectancy is close to normal, as long as they remain on successful treatment. However, when patients stop therapy, virus rebounds to high levels in most patients, sometimes associated with severe illness because i have gone through this and even an increased risk of death. The aim of “cure”is ongoing but i still do believe my government made millions of ARV drugs instead of finding a cure. for ongoing therapy and monitoring. ARV alone cannot cure HIV as among the cells that are infected are very long-living CD4 memory cells and possibly other cells that act as long-term reservoirs. HIV can hide in these cells without being detected by the body’s immune system. Therefore even when ART completely blocks subsequent rounds of infection of cells, reservoirs that have been infected before therapy initiation persist and from these reservoirs HIV rebounds if therapy is stopped. “Cure” could either mean an eradication cure, which means to completely rid the body of reservoir virus or a functional HIV cure, where HIV may remain in reservoir cells but rebound to high levels is prevented after therapy interruption.Dr Itua Herbal Medicine makes me believes there is a hope for people suffering from,Cancer,Hiv_ Aids,Herpes,Copd,Diabetes,Hepatitis,I read about him online how he cure Tasha and Tara so i contacted him on drituaherbalcenter@gmail.com even talked on whatsapps +2348149277967 believe me it was easy i drank his herbal medicine for two weeks and i was cured just like that isn't Dr Itua a wonder man? Yes he is! I thank him so much so i will advise if you are suffering from one of those diseases Pls do contact him he's a nice man.
